I, for one, am messed up now. Thanks in advance for the nightmares, Sol.
I'd love a YPA along these lines...
at the moment i don't have the wt cd program up, but when i can bring it up, i'll post some.. .
also, articles which include a paragraph here or there that are directed towards children or teens count as well.. articles that come to mind for me first are all the articles dealing with (gasp) masturbation.
and one poster here recently posted some parts from a young people ask article about dating, which was very funny.

Exactly.
Although I have to disagree with their "standard" advice in other aspects. They are patronizing. Their little "examples" are lame. They tell girls not to flirt or they might be raped (You know, asking for it). They put down flirting in general as if it was evil. They tell kids not to hold hands. They makes the opposite sex seem scary. They stereotype both genders (especially girls). None of that is standard!
i found an article today that discusses the new batman movie.
growing up, i remember the batman and robin tv show from the 1960's, and i assumed that the dark knight movies would be along the same lines.
boy, was i wrong!!!
Most of the things described in the movie aren't even shown btw! None of it is drawn out for a long time and NONE of it is glorified. Pretty much those scenes are the only intense violence (the rest is pretty much just car chases and a few punches) and a lot of the movie is talking, making decisions, etc. The movie is hopeful. It shows that people can be kind and unselfish, even in dire situations, that people like the Joker can't always win by hurting others, that even "bad" people can do the right thing. It offers a lot more than violence, but the violence was IMO neccesary to contrast with other scenes and characters. We can't pretend that life is all sunshine and puppies.

I'm sorry but the Dark Knight, the Batman movie from a few years ago that the OP was talking about, was an AWESOME movie. You really should watch it and form your own opinion. The way they carry out the violence isnt gorey. Kinda like how you said Transformers is. On top of that, the hero Batman, has a no guns no killing policy. That movie is so much more than the action that comprises parts of it. It delves into aspects of human nature, why we do what we do. Complications of right and wrong being viewed in absolutes, justice, honor, love, emotional damage, politics, making choices for the greater good, self sacrifice and of course some cool technology(if you're into that kinda stuff). Dark Knight is a well crafted movie that sets the standard for how a superhero movie can be done in a serious manner.
YES

Really? Really. The casting of Christian Bale...having Nolan direct...all the pre-release info/trailers/marketing...It amazes me how anyone could think that studios are going to spend over $180 million making a Batman movie that in ANY way REMOTELY resembles the absurd 1960s Batman TV show. The 60s Batman (and subsequent influence of the comics for a few years) was a bizarre, juvenile tangent on its treatment of the character to begin with. Originally, Batman carried a gun and occasionally did away with the bad guy. After the 60s nonsense, the 70s saw Batman return to his original darker character where it has pretty much stayed.
That said, the movie was violent, much more so than Batman Begins, and I thought should have gotten an R rating.
What happened to the days when a person or family could go to see a movie like Superman, etc
Batman is an entirely different character than Superman! Where Superman embodies and represents the best humanity can aspire to be, Batman represents the shadows, the darkness, the revenge, the manic drive to rid his city of criminals. ITS WHY HE DRESSES AS A BAT.
Again, yes!
The OP COMPLETELY misrepresents the movie. I haven't seen The Dark Knight Rises, and it does look a bit violent for my taste- we'll see ( I liked Batman Begins which was pretty tame), but The Dark Knight I've seen several times. It's not that violent or scary. Certainly NOT sadistic. This isn't Andy-fugging-Griffith, sorry. It actually has depth. And yes, violence is one of the many leyers in that movie. We ALL have the capacity for violence and the movie looks at that. If that makes people uncomfortable, maybe they are refusing to face reality-and themselves. If that's ALL a person can takkke away from the movie, perhaps they do not have the insight to recognize such depth.
I agree that many movies are horribly violent and sadistic, and the ones which include violence toward children are particularly reprehensible, but c'mon!

Lol@ NC!
I'm glad you weren't like my JW parent. I've been accused of it just for having my hands under my blankets.
I just love one example in an article of a young guy who talked with his father about it and his father actually CRIED and confessed that he had the same problem as a kid. WTF?

I mean unless a person is addicted, EVERYONE ELSE (including WTS) should leave the subject alone and let people do what they want in that area. It isn't harmful if it's not an addiction.
